CHRONIC FATIGUE SYNDROME
Is it all in your head?
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome has been thought to be an imaginary ailment. Just being accepted recently as an actual medical condition - being classified as an infectious disease, which is difficult to clinically diagnose.
I have had countless people report to me that it took years for the doctor to acknowledge their condition. Often being told instead to "toughen up", "they need to see a psychiatrist", "they are wasting the doctor's times, who has real patients to help" and of course the constant "there is nothing wrong with you".
There are 2 premises that cause the doctor's attitude. One is that if they can not find a problem, then no problem exists. The second is the attitude that most who complain are hypochondriacs.
But you know your body and what it is and isn't capable of. And the vast majority of the people, do not want to be sick.
Symptoms can include, but not all need to be present.
Theories of cause
Epstein Barr Virus (EBV)- Once thought of as the only cause - Is a virus that is linked with the same virus that causes Mononucleosis (Mono-the kissing disease), which can remain dormant (not active) for long periods of time and is triggered into activity by a weak immune system or stress.
It is considered an auto-immune disease (because it appears that the immune system then attacks the very body it is to protect).
EBV can be confused with other diseases such as: cancer, aids, arthritis, leukemia, lupus, lyme disease and multiple sclerosis.
Profound deficiencies (especially mineral) - The body needs certain raw material to repair and fuel the body. Although the body is miraculous in its adaptability, if it lacks enough nutrient for long enough of a period of time, you are going to drag butt.
Yeast Infestation - Over use of antibiotics and breads and sugars can cause candidiasis (yeast) over growth. This yeast puts such a strain on the body, the biggest part of the body's energy and concentration is on protecting itself from the yeast invasion.
Parasites - Parasites consume the nutrients needed by the body and excrete (eliminate, void) toxins, which puts an enormous strain on the body.
Stress- There is a book I once heard about called WAKE ME UP WHEN IT IS OVER about a woman who went into a coma merely because of the stress in her life. Besides the damage done to the adrenals and nervous system, stress also lowers the immune response and washes water soluble nutrients out of the system for example B vitamins.
Depression - Like stress should not be underestimated. Not only can it put an emotional burden on the system, but also a physical one. The most difficult thing to determine is what came first, poor health then the depression or the depression which then caused the poor health. I would have to say by far it is physical.
Toxicity - In this ever polluted world in which we live we are bombarded with toxins from our air, water, food, actually just about ever aspect of our lives. Sometimes the level of these toxins are like the straw that broke the camels back. The body is to its limit and is sensitive to any toxin to which it is exposed.

We, the medical profession and alternative natural health professionals, do not know everything. Of all the knowledge we have there is an infinite amount we do not know or understand. So listen to your body. If you truly feel lousy, then it is most likely not all in your head.
